Calling All Aspiring Horticulturists

New Caledonian Woodlands are proud to be working on a new project in partnership with WHALE Arts, called Westburn CAN (Climate Action Network).

The project is run from the WHALE Arts centre in Wester Hailes, Edinburgh and is funded by the Scottish Government’s Climate Challenge Fund. Westburn CAN is for the local community and aims to reduce carbon emissions through horticulture, transport, environmental arts and cultural activities.

Our role in the project is to create a horticultural hub on an underused patch of scrub land behind WHALE Arts, transforming it into a place for people of all ages to get involved in local food growing, pass on skills and knowledge and learn first hand how to live lower carbon lives.

We are now looking for a group of keen local volunteers to work on the project and transform the back of the centre. If you or anyone you know is interested in learning about designing a garden, constructing raised beds, growing fruit and vegetables, making paths, managing woodland or any other aspects of horticulture please get in touch.

The horticulture group will meet every Monday and Friday from 10.30am – 2.30pm at WHALE Arts from now until March 2017.  Lunch and refreshments are provided and we would love to see you there.
