Own your Own Woodland Experience

Saturday 25th November 2017

Denmuir Woodlands, Fife

Ever fancied owning and managing your own woodland? This one day experience gives you the opportunity to speak to a family who do just that. Liz Corke (who used to work for New Caledonian Woodlands) and her family own and manage this small woodland in Fife and are keen to share their knowledge and experience of what they have learnt along the way.

Over a delicious late breakfast and warm drinks Liz and her family will talk a bit about why they bought the wood and when and go into the details such as how much it cost etc and then talk through their management plan (which Donald helped put together).

In terms of activities throughout the day there are a lot of different things to be doing; brashing and burning in the sitka spruce section, coppicing sycamore or formative pruning in the broadleaf section.

Liz’s husband Tom can also going to do a chainsaw milling demonstration if there’s enough interest.

This will be a rare opportunity to see the practicalities of owning and managing your own woodland firsthand and to get open and honest answers to any and all questions you might have.

We will provide a late breakfast on arrival at the woods and a delicious dinner cooked on the fire on Saturday afternoon before we head back to Edinburgh.  All meals will be vegan/vegetarian with much of the produce sourced locally and organic.

We will pick you up at 9am on Saturday morning from outside the old Royal High School, Regent Road in the centre of Edinburgh and aim to have you back in Edinburgh by 6pm that evening.

Group Leader
