Introduction to Green Wood Working Day

Saturday 25th March 2017

Green hub site, Edinburgh

In this one day workshop at our leafy hub site you’ll be introduced to the wonderful world of green wood carving. We will go through the processes involved in carving small pieces such as knives, spurtles and spatulas from green wood.

Activity

You should come away from the event with one or two items that you have made having had a full introduction to the art of carving ‘treen’. You will also get the chance to try your hand at the pole lathe which is another unique way of manipulating green wood.

You don’t need to have previous experience of green woodworking or of using carving tools, this is a beginners course aimed at folks with little or no experience – we provide all the tuition you’ll need as well as all the equipment. We’ll take you through the theory of green woodworking, the traditional techniques and different tools and will spend most of the day actually carving and creating objects of your own design.

This is a wonderful opportunity to learn some simple woodworking skills in a safe and stimulating environment and come away with something to treasure!

Food

We will provide a delicious vegetarian lunch and warm drinks and snacks throughout the day. Please let us know in advance if you have any special dietary requirements.

Transport

We are asking everyone to meet at our green “hub” in central Edinburgh at 10am each day and we should finish up around 4pm.
