Community Woodfuel Day

Saturday 25th March 2017

MILLENNIUM WOODLAND SITE, EDINBURGH CITY CENTRE

Lend a hand managing local woodlands and stock up on firewood in preparation for the winter nights. Our wood fuel days are all about managing woodlands sustainably for the benefit of biodiversity, while also generating the timber we can take home, season and then use to warm us in the cold, dark winter months.

Activity

Our tasks for the day will involve thinning and pruning broadleaves, stacking and carrying poles, cutting branches up finely and scattering them to reduce the fire risk. We will select the timber that is suitable for firewood, cut it into shorter lengths ready to take home to our own fires and log stoves.

Please note, the logs will be green so you will have to store them for a year until they are seasoned, but it’s a great place to start and a lovely way to spend an afternoon. At the end of the day, all the harvested woodfuel will be divided evenly among volunteers and whatever left will be sold by Fruitful Woods.

Food

We will provide a delicious vegetarian lunch with much of the produce sourced locally and organic. We will also provide hot drinks and snacks throughout the day.

Transport

You will need to find your own way to the site by car, moped, bike, skateboard or public transport. Obviously, your means of transport will determine how much lovely firewood you can take home. We will send directions when you book.

Group Leader
